A Market Management patient in critical condition after an accident in Kon Tum

TP HCMA 54-year-old male patient, part of a group of Market Management officials, had a traffic accident in Kon Tum and was in a coma due to a brain hemorrhage. Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital are trying to treat him.

On the evening of April 15, Dr. Tran Minh Tri, Department of Neurosurgery, Cho Ray Hospital, said that the patient suffered multiple injuries, was drained by a doctor in Kon Tum and then transferred to Ho Chi Minh City. The scan recorded that the patient had bleeding in many places in the brain, severe anemia, and broken shoulder blades and ribs. Doctors transfuse blood, correct coagulation disorders, and surgically remove hematomas.

“The patient’s condition is still very serious, we are trying everything to save his life,” said Dr. Tri.

This is the most serious case among 15 patients transferred to Cho Ray Hospital, after a car carrying a group of officials and employees of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department crashed into a sewer in Kon Tum. 6 people with milder illness have been discharged from the hospital. The remaining 8 people are being treated at the departments of Traumatic Brain Injury, Ear, Nose and Throat, and Orthopedics.

Doctor Tran Phuoc Binh, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, said that 5 patients treated in this department were given first aid and treated for head injuries at the hospital in Kon Tum. Two cases required surgery for broken bones in the arms. One person broke the kneecap and the other broke the left clavicle, with the possibility of conservative treatment without surgery. The remaining patient had soft tissue injuries in the right knee and lower leg, mild swelling, and is being monitored and temporarily immobilized with a splint.

Female patient treated at the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat, had heavy nose bleeding, broken nose bones and head and face injuries. The patient is being treated and monitored and can be discharged from the hospital in 2-3 days.

Of the two people treated at the Department of Traumatic Brain Injury, the female patient’s condition is milder, the scan shows no hematoma in the brain, and is expected to be discharged in the next few days if her condition is stable, according to M.D. Duong Quang Minh. Male patient fractured lower leg, forearm, and radius. Doctors splint broken bones and monitor brain injuries. If the brain condition does not worsen, the patient will be transferred to the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics for surgery to repair broken bones.

On the afternoon of April 13, a car carrying a group of officials and employees of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department traveling to Kon Tum collided with a truck and plunged into a 3-4 m deep sewer located on the side of the road in Dak To Re commune, Kon district. Field, killing one person and injuring 24 people. Authorities are investigating and clarifying the cause.
