Warning signs of fatty liver are easily overlooked

Fatty liver silently destroys the body. As the disease progresses, signs of right abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss appear, but we think it’s normal so we ignore it.

The liver, an important organ in the body’s vital activities, is suffering from the invasion of fat. This is an uninvited enemy, lurking in the bodies of about 1/3 of the adult population. Fatty liver disease is considered a “silent killer”, stalking millions of people in the UK. This disease is silent but persistent, often without symptoms, making detection and treatment complicated.

At first, fatty liver may seem harmless. Over time, the disease silently destroys, posing the risk of serious complications such as cirrhosis, liver failure, cancer and even death. What is worrying is that the disease does not reveal itself until it is too late, making it a real threat. Symptoms such as right abdominal pain, unexplained fatigue, unusual weight loss and physical weakness only appear when the disease has progressed.

According to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease often has no symptoms in the early stages and is only detected through a general health check. When signs such as jaundice, itching, and swelling appear, it is time to take urgent action by seeing a doctor immediately.

Blood tests and liver function tests can help diagnose conditions such as hepatitis, but do not always detect fatty liver. This condition can also be detected during a stomach ultrasound.

Currently, there is no specific medicine to treat this disease. Lifestyle changes with a healthy diet and regular physical activity can help prevent and reverse the condition.
