Does squeezing kumquats into sugarcane juice reduce sugar?

Many people often squeeze or squeeze kumquats with sugarcane juice to reduce the sweet taste, so does this reduce the sugar in sugarcane juice? (Hong, 30 years old, Hanoi)

Sugarcane juice is often added with kumquats (kumquats) to squeeze together, the purpose is to increase the flavor. The sour taste of kumquats will soften the sweetness of the sugarcane juice, so when drinking it, it will not make you feel sick.

There are two ways to combine kumquats and sugarcane juice, the first is to directly add kumquats and juice them with sugarcane. This is the popular way because the kumquat juice will blend perfectly with the sugarcane juice, and is also the most time-saving way. The second way is after pressing the sugarcane, put the sugarcane juice and ice in the glass, then use a knife to cut the kumquat, remove the seeds and squeeze the kumquat into the sugarcane glass. This way avoids the bitter taste of sugarcane juice from the kumquat peel. Pay attention to the amount of kumquats squeezed into the glass, don’t let the glass become too sour.

However, adding kumquats to sugarcane juice only reduces the sweet taste, but does not actually reduce the sugar content in the sugarcane juice. In 100 ml of sugar cane juice there is 20 g of sugar. When adding kumquats or ice, the amount of water increases but the amount of sugar does not change.

Therefore, people should not drink too much sugarcane juice because it is cool, they should only drink 2 cups/day (about 300 ml) which is enough sugar recommended for adults. Not to mention there are many other sources of sugar entering the body, so the risk of excess sugar is very high. Consuming too much sugar increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Note that if you use it right after juicing, you should combine the kumquat with sugarcane juice. If you don’t drink it right away, you should not add the kumquat to the juice. If left for a long time, kumquat will cause the sugarcane juice to spoil faster. In addition, you should not drink sugarcane juice close to meals.
