Spend thousands of dollars to relieve stress through a screaming ritual

ScotlandSome women spend from $2,000 to $4,000 on a trip to the forest and perform a ritual to release their anger through screaming.

Mia Magik (real name Mia Banducci), a self-described “spiritual witch”, has been holding anger-releasing ceremonies in Scotland for many years. At first, she only performed it for herself and her friends, then developed this ritual into a business service.

Trips will last several days, include many activities, and cost from 2,000 to 4,000 USD (equivalent to 51 to 102 million VND). Additionally, she also has a one-day package for $222.

During the ceremony, Magik leads participants to face and share their deepest feelings. She guided them through warm-up and breathing exercises, then encouraged everyone to remember and face those who had hurt them. Magik believes this expands their ability to feel happiness and joy, bringing peace and gratitude when they return to their families. Besides, participants are free to scream and bang their sticks on the ground. Because the forest is far from residential areas, they are free to vent their anger.

Rituals to release anger have received great attention. Many people shared their feelings on social media, expressing relief at being able to express their anger publicly – an action often discouraged in the community.

“Why did I immediately feel this strong emotion and start crying?” one woman wrote. “I literally cried watching this… I needed this,” another shared. One person expressed: “With more anger as I enter middle age, I really need this experience.”

The screaming method – part of an anger ritual – was created by Arthur Yanov, a psychologist, in the 1970s to help people release pent-up psychological trauma. After that, the famous couple John Lennon and Yoko Ono promoted them widely.

Today, spiritual guides, such as Rachel Pringle – a teacher of tantra (a system of philosophy and practice originating in India) and founder of Wild Woman – suggest that manifesting Anger through actions such as shouting can be beneficial for treatment. They believe that if anger is expressed safely, this ritual can help people feel happier, stronger and more creative.

According to psychiatrists, everyone – regardless of gender, needs to experience and express emotions in a healthy way. Men need to cry to release and women also need to be angry when necessary. However, not everyone is suitable for expressing anger through rituals. Each person has a different way of releasing anger. Some people enjoy physical activities such as vigorous exercise, while others prefer gentler activities such as listening to relaxing sounds.
