Former Athletico and Coritiba player, Fransérgio pauses his career and generates commotion

Revealed by Ahtletico in 2009 and with a frustrating spell at Coritiba between 2023 and 2024, the midfielder Fransérgio announced, last Tuesday (26), the termination of the contract with Marítimo, from Portugal.

The player, who also played for Paraná Clube in 2010, announced the decision in a moving statement: Fransérgio revealed that he left Marítimo to be able to dedicate himself fully to the care of his son Pedro, who has autism spectrum disorder.

Excited, Fransérgio explained that his son had shown a setback in his development in recent months. “My Pedro needs much more than what he has here on the Island [da Madeira] and in Brazil I have these resources”, said the midfielder.

“In the four monthsI was here, my son Pedro regressed a lot. For me, what makes sense is my family. I apologize to my teammates, the fans and the structure offered, but I can’t continue to help on the field “, he continued.

Fransérgio also revealed that he considered staying in Portugal at least until January, when the transfer window opens, but chose to bring the decision forward.

“My wife raised the possibility of her going with the children [para o Brasil] and I’ll stay until January, when the window opens, to give the club some time, but I can’t let her return alone for something that’s ours”, he argued.

Fransérgio left the future open. The player stated that he will take a month’s vacation and then consider the possibility of returning to the game, but only at a Brazilian club.
