Wright has dual citizenship of Finland and the United States. His father has Finnish roots.

The 19-year-old runner who lives in San Diego and studies in Eugene, Oregon, ran 400 meters in 52.60 in May, which is below the Finnish record for 19-year-olds and the world championship limit for his age group. During that time, she is seventh in the all-time statistics for Finnish women.

Wright will compete in the Finnish team already in August at the under-20 World Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Opendorse-in his profile, Wright says that he is a Finnish-Kenyan-American athlete who is extremely passionate about sports. At the same time, however, he wants to build his identity outside of sports as well.

Wright says his hobbies are art and design. He studies psychology, but is also interested in economics.

Wright wants to speak up for mental health, and has related future plans.

“While I want to go as far as I can in track, I hope that with either or both majors, I could eventually establish a program that focuses on the mental health of athletes and children.”

Part of the program would help build mental strength, self-confidence, focus on self-esteem and maintain a positive mindset.

“The second part of the program would focus on helping children who have experienced traumatic situations by finding healthy coping methods so that the experiences do not affect them so strongly later in life,” he says.
