Lea Meyer tripped over a water obstacle in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. The end result was a flying photo series.
German runner by Lea Meyer the competition in the 3,000 meters steeplechase at the World Championships did not go exactly as planned.
Meyer set off confidently in the first heat, but already at the first water obstacle, the run went to pieces. Meyer tripped over an obstacle and flew headfirst into the water.
Only the legs were visible when the German made acquaintance with the water barrier. He got up soaking wet with his hair hanging down his face.
“It looked more like swimming than athletics”, Saksalaislehti Bild tasted
Meyer ran the race bravely to the finish, but did not make it to the final. He was seventh in his heat.
In excellent condition a place in the finals could well have been expected from the runner, so stumbling hurt him a lot.
“I didn’t approach the obstacle aggressively enough. I focused on the other competitors and not on myself. I took too many steps and somehow managed to get caught in the obstacle,” Meyer said, according to Bild.
Despite its comical nature, the fall looked a little dangerous, and Meyer confirmed that she felt a little pain.
“I feel it in my lower back. That wasn’t the smoothest landing. I am lucky that nothing more serious happened,” he said.
