Table tennis: Sabine Winter in the top 10 for the first time

After reaching the World Cup semi-finals in Macau, newcomer Sabine Winter (Dachau) is in the top ten in the table tennis world rankings for the first time. As expected, the 33-year-old Europe Top 16 winner improved by three places to ninth position in the ranking published at the beginning of the week. Last weekend, Winter surprisingly became the first European woman since 2015 to reach the semi-finals of the third most important individual competition after the Olympic and World Cup tournaments. A year ago, the European team champion, who was only stopped in Macau by number one world champion Sun Yingsha (China), was ranked 52nd in the world rankings shortly after switching to an anti-topspin rubber.

In the men’s category, former European champion Dang Qiu from Düsseldorf returned to the elite circle in tenth place after participating in the round of 16 in Macau as the best of three German top 20 players. The Chinese World Cup winner and world champion Wang Chuqin remains the front runner.
