Hansi Flick: “I would like to win the Champions League and be the coach when the stadium is finished”

The coach of FC Barcelona, ​​Hansi Flick, assured this Tuesday that he wants to continue on the Barça bench beyond this season and acknowledged that he is excited to close his time at the club by fulfilling two great objectives: winning the Champions League and leading the team when the new Spotify Camp Nou is completely finished.

“I would like to win the Champions League and be the coach when the stadium is finished,” said the German coach in the press conference prior to the league match against Celta Vigo, an appearance in which he also made clear his desire to continue. “It’s what I want. This is going to be my last step in my career. I feel good and I would like to renew, but now is not the time to talk about that,” he added.

Flick explained that he feels fully identified with the sporting project and with the club’s environment, something that he considers key to considering continuity in Barcelona.

“Here I notice that, looking at everything around me, it is the best. My family and my staff enjoy being here. It is fantastic to see the team. It is Barça and that is a huge motivation,” he said.

The Barça coach also defended that the team continues to grow despite the blow caused by the recent European elimination, in the quarterfinals against Atlético de Madrid, and was convinced that the squad can once again compete for the top continental title.

“I see and feel that we can do it. We have to be united and try to win the Champions League. We have had a few days of rest and the atmosphere is extraordinary. Step by step, game by game, performing at the highest level,” he said.

Regarding the team’s season, he avoided giving a specific note, although he highlighted the group’s performance in a campaign in which Barça has once again fought for all the titles, beyond winning the Spanish Super Cup and being in a position to reconquer the League.

“That’s for you to decide. When we arrived we didn’t expect to be competing for four titles. It’s not just about winning, but how you win. The club and the fans are happy,” he commented.

Flick also insisted that the path in LaLiga EA Sports is still not resolved, despite the Blaugrana team’s advantage in the final stretch of the championship. “We have to go step by step. The important thing is the next game. Real Madrid will also fight. The League has not been decided yet,” he warned.

Regarding the planning of the next course, he confirmed that he maintains constant contact with the sports management headed by Deco, although he avoided talking about specific names or future reinforcements. “We talk every day with Deco. We also focus on next season, it’s normal. We have some clear ideas, but now is not the time to talk about it,” he concluded.
