Football supporters disrupt traffic in Oulunkylä – riot police and mounted police are there

Helsinki two big sports brands, HIFK and Jokerit, will meet each other in a football match in Helsinki on Tuesday evening.

The match starts at nine in the evening at Oulunkylä football stadium. Up to two thousand spectators are expected.

Both teams playing in the lower leagues have their loud and fast supporters. It is estimated that the supporters will be more or less evenly divided in the match.

Ultra supporters of the third party, i.e. HJK, may also arrive.

The so-called ladle derby has been prepared with considerable security measures: for example, plenty of security guards have been booked. According to the Helsinki police, the authorities are visibly present and ready in case of disturbances.

On the spot the developing situation is monitored by HS’s reporter Get Takala.

According to Takala, the atmosphere is dramatic. There are mounted police and at least three other patrols, including a group of riot police. The police closed Mäkitorpantie a couple of hundred meters away.

Before eight in the evening, HIFK supporters start to gather in front of the shopping center Ogel. There are approximately fifty young men, many of whom are dressed in dark clothes. HIFK’s support song, drumming and the bangs of bangers, or bombs, resound in the air.

Takala says that the police ask the supporters to stop and threaten to use force. Riot police move to the middle of the road against the marchers and block traffic.

According to Takala, the marchers shout various insults in chorus, such as: “HJK and Jokerit, whores!”.

As far as Mäkitorpantie, the screams of the Jokers can be heard from Käskynhaltijantie.

Eight in the evening supporters have taken over the Mäkitorpantie and Norrtäljentie roundabout. They stand in the middle of the tramway and block expressway traffic, Takala describes.

The truck driver blows his horn and approaches the football supporters. Several HSL buses and cars are standing idle, waiting for the supporters and the police to clear the road they blocked.

The police warn by spraying something in the air towards HIFK supporters.

The torches are lit. “Watch out for the gun, you left-wing whore,” one of HIFK’s supporters shouts.

The air is filled with the smoke of torches and bangers of bangers. Even the fireworks explode in the darkening evening sky.

The marchers stop in front of the apartment building to cheer and bounce. The journey towards the stadium continues.
