Volleyball: Jake Hanes leads BR Volleys to their opening victory in Lüneburg

The Berlin Volleys presented in the first final game of the German volleyball championship against SVG Lüneburg. At the start of the “Best of Five” series, the defending champions from Berlin celebrated a 3-1 (25:20, 25:19, 18:25, 25:21) away win against the cup winners.

The next game will take place on Saturday (6 p.m./Dyn) in Berlin. The decision can only be made after the third match, which will take place again in Lüneburg on May 6th. Last year, the Berliners easily prevailed against Lower Saxony with a 3-0 win.

The capital city team, who finished the normal round as second in the table behind the “Lüne-Hünen”, got into the game well in front of the 3,200 spectators in the sold-out LKH Arena. With an ace, ex-Lüneburg player Matthew Knigge made it 17:13 in the first set, which the volleys won.

Jake Hanes sets the tone for the capital city team

Pass number two was marked by Jake Hanes. The American diagonal volley attacker set the tone on offense and defense. Two aces from the 27-year-old to make it 14:8 and 15:8 were the preliminary decision.

SVG only rarely found the relaxedness and self-image that had carried them through the season so far. It wasn’t enough to win more than one set. The guests celebrated their celebrated success with the first match point.
