A big bang in skiing: the ÖSV loses its general secretary

Dual leadership

Most people will not have really noticed Christian Scherer in public. But he was – together with the sports director and managing director Mario Stecher – the strong man at the ski association.

As part of a structural reform President Roswitha Stadlober disempowered and primarily only functioned as a representative. The operational decisions were primarily made by Scherer and Stecher.

Prudence and responsibility

The ÖSV Presidential Conference met on Thursday. Scherer informed the state presidents of his move.

Christian Scherer led the ÖSV during a phase of realignment “with great calm, caution and responsibility,” emphasized ÖSV President Roswitha Stadlober.

Christian Scherer has worked for the Austrian Ski Association since 2012 and has served as Secretary General since 2020. “For me, my time at the ÖSV was above all one thing: an intensive and very enriching collaboration with many committed colleagues,” says the East Tyrolean.

Highlight Ski-WM 2025

“Together as a team, we managed to position the association well in a challenging phase, secure key partnerships in the long term and, among other things, realize strategic investments in the digitalization of the association or in a floodlight system on Bergisel. The Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm in January 2024 but especially the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships 2025 in Saalbach were special moments and will be remembered by all of us for a long time,” explains the outgoing Secretary General.

According to KURIER information, the East Tyrolean will switch to the private sector in the fall.
