Louzán “is not going to get into controversies” with Florentino Pérez and asks that “the clubs be up to par”

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, assured this Wednesday that the federative body “is not going to get into controversies” in reference to the words issued by his counterpart at Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, who questioned the work of the Spanish referees.

“The RFEF and myself are never going to get involved in this type of controversy. Real Madrid is a great club, not only in Spain, and what we want is for the Spanish clubs to be, in this case, at the top and at the level. Obviously, in daily life there are always circumstances of which evaluations must be made, I fully respect what they do, in this case, to their president, but the Federation is not going to get involved in that type of controversy,” said Louzán in an event with the councilor of Transport of the Community of Madrid, Jorge Rodrigo, and the CEO of Metro de Madrid, Ignacio Vázquez.

The leader came out in defense of the work carried out within the organization a day after the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, questioned the work of the Spanish referees at a press conference. “Strengthen the role they play, which is not easy at all, our referee team, who surely have things to improve, but right now, they are the referees who count the most in Europe,” he stated.

For this reason, he believes that “the role they play in Spain is very good”, although he recognizes that “there may always be involuntary errors.” “They are athletes, and they can also make mistakes, but other than that, we have very good referees in Spanish arbitration,” he stressed.

“Now we are focused exclusively on the Spanish team, which is what is important. The Federation is not going to enter into any type of controversy in this sense,” he reiterated, highlighting that those words from the Madrid president “will be evaluated together with the legal side of the house” to make a decision, but without entering into any controversy. “Our way of acting is to do our job well, we always want to get it right. In this case we may be wrong, but we have the best intentions and therefore we will never get into any type of controversy,” he stressed.

Another of the topics that Pérez discussed in the press conference this Tuesday was the ‘Negreira case’ in relation to the words of the president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), Fran Soto, stating that it is a thing of the past. “Fran, with the best intentions, said that it is an issue that is judicialized. Hopefully sooner rather than later there will be a forceful sentence so that a situation like that never happens again,” Louzán pointed out.

“These are facts that a man who was vice president at that time has supposedly done, but that has nothing to do with the stage that we represent or the current arbitrators. It is in court and there there will be the last word and I hope it will be as soon as possible because that will help remove any type of suspicion about this. Justice puts everyone in their place,” he remarked.

Finally, Louzán reiterated that the ‘Negreira case’ does not correspond to a period in which he was president of the RFEF. “It is not part of our stage, it is not my stage nor that of Fran Soto, it is a completely past one, but at the same time, just as it is past, we ask that justice speed up the process as much as possible and that we can have a ruling as soon as possible on this matter,” he concluded.
