Sinner beats Rublev and flies to the semifinals in Rome. He will challenge Medvedev

Jannik Sinner is in the semifinals at the Internationals of Roma: blue yes imposto sul russo Andrei Rublev in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, in an hour and 31 minutes. In the semi-final Sinner will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev who won the other quarter over the Spaniard Martin Landaduce. The world number one has broke another record conquering the 32nd success in a row at a Masters 1000 tournament and thus surpassing Novak Djokovic’s 31. This will be his 18th semifinal in the 1000m, the sixth in a row and the 50th in the major circuit, which allows him to overtake Rublev and become the tenth active player with more ATP semifinals.

Sinner: “I wasn’t 100%, difficult match”

“It was a very difficult match and I’m very happy to be in the semi-final. We are two Italians in the semi-final and it’s special. I didn’t play at 100% because it wasn’t easy due to the wind.” These are the words, in the on-court interview, of Jannik Sinner after the success over Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Internazionali d’Italia. “I’m feeling a bit tired because I’ve played a lot of matches lately, I played four very different matches here. Today Rublev didn’t serve very well and he left me a little more free in response”, concludes Sinner.

Rome: two Italians in the semi-finals, it’s the seventh time

For the seventh time in the history of the Italian Internationals two Italians reach the semi-finals, Luciano Darderi and Jannik Sinner. It had already happened last year when Sinner overcame Ruud in the quarterfinals and Lorenzo Musetti got the better of Zverev. Before, however, it had happened in 1957 with the final between Nicola Pietrangeli and Beppe Merlo, in 1955 with the final between Fausto Gardini and Beppe Merlo, in 1933 with Giovannino Palmieri and Emanuele Sertorio and in 1932 with Giorgio De Stefani and Giovannino Palmieri. The absolute record instead it dates back to 1934 with 3 Italians out of 4 semi-finalists: they were Giovannino Palmieri, Giorgio De Stefani and Emanuele Sertorio.

Medvedev wins with difficulty with Landaluce

Daniil Medvedev reaches the semi-finals at the Italian Internationals. The Russian, seeded number 7, has beat the 20 year old Spaniard Martin Landalucen.94 in the world, returned to the main draw as a lucky loser, in three hard-fought sets with a score of 1-6 6-4 7-5. On the Friday of the semi-finals at 7pm the Russian will face for a place in the final Jannik Sinner. It will be the 17th match between the two.
