Arsenal is close to the Premier League with a narrow victory against Burnley

Arsenal have gotten closer to the 2025-26 Premier League title after beating Burnley (1-0) this Monday, on the penultimate matchday, in which a solitary goal from German Kai Havertz helped Mikel Arteta’s team maintain their advantage in the standings over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The Gunners attacked the rival goal in the first quarter of an hour of the duel at the Emirates Stadium, with shots by Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz and a shot against the post by Leandro Trossard, and it was a combination between the first two that broke the tie. In the 37th minute, the Englishman put a corner kick and the German, with a header, sent it into the back of the net.

Saka was able to increase the lead before the break with a screwball shot that just missed the post, and after the restart, just after a chance from Burnley, Eberechi Eze hit the ball against the crossbar. The tension was felt at the Emirates when Havertz made a challenge at Ugochukwu’s shin that the referee did not sanction, and the game was dying until the final local victory.

With this, Mikel Arteta’s men take an almost definitive step towards winning the title. Right now, they are five points ahead (82) over Manchester City (77), who have one game less. On the final day, they will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, six days before facing the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
