From Sinner to Sabalenka, why the big names in tennis are protesting at Roland Garros

At least 20 players, including the number one in their respective rankings, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinnerthey plan to reduce their media commitments tomorrow at Roland-Garros as a sign of protest against what they consider an unequal distribution of revenues from major tennis tournaments. This is what we learn from a source close to the players.

At least seven members of the men’s top ten and seven of the women’s top ten would join the protest: for over a year they have been asking to receive 22% of the revenues of the four Grand Slam tournaments, compared to the current 15%.

The idea – according to the same source – would be to limit media appearances to just 15 minutes.

Jannik Sinner’s Roland Garros adventure will begin with local wild card Clement Tabur. Having completed the Career Golden Masters at the Rome Internationals, the world number one aims to win the last Slam missing from his palmares. On the red clay of Paris, where a year ago he reached the final, missing three match points before surrendering to Carlos Alcaraz, the 24-year-old from South Tyrol is the big favorite and given the absence of the reigning champion – who will also miss the grass season – no one seems able to hinder him.

Said of Tabur, Sinner would then find one of Fearnley or Cerundolo in the second round, a possible derby in the round of 16 with Luciano Darderi (who in turn will make his debut against Ofner), then a fourth with Ben Shelton and a possible semi-final with Felix Auger-Aliassime or Daniil Medvedev.

In Sinner’s quarter there are also Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi, who will start against Marton Fucsovics and Tallon Griekspoor respectively: the Roman tennis player is projected to face Darderi in the third round, for the 25-year-old from Sanremo it would be a hypothetical second round with Tsitsipas or Muller and third with Shelton.
