The former NHL professional turned out to be right. Hungary seemed helpless, Germany was superior in terms of offensive power. However, efficiency was lacking for a long time. Hungary’s goalkeeper Balizs was the focus throughout and was able to fend off numerous attempts from the German professionals until shortly before the end of the second half. Then NHL striker Reichel finally decided the game with his first tournament goal (40th) and Samuel Dove-McFalls (40th) from the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. 28:4 shots on goal after 40 minutes only partially reflected the dominance of the DEB selection.

Gawanke hits and hits

Against Hungary, the defenders continued to be aggressive. Shortly after the start of the third period, Gawanke (42nd) directed the puck into the Hungarian net to make it 5-0. The clear lead made the German team a little more careless. Tamas Sarpatki (45th) was able to reduce the score to 1:5 with one of the few Hungarian shots on goal.

Hungary even managed a second goal. However, national coach Kreis had Philipp Grubauer’s goal checked due to goalkeeper interference and was proven right. In the game against the USA (3:4), Kreis decided not to take a test when the score was 3:3 and caused astonishment among the national players.

Second challenge unsuccessful

Gawanke was still able to rely on Gawanke on the offensive against Hungary. With his third goal, the 26-year-old increased the score to 6:1. Kreis also had the 2:6 by Janos Hary (58th) challenged and checked for alleged offside. This time the goal counted. That didn’t change anything about the clear German success.
