Enrique Riquelme: “I hope the exciting name is Enrique Riquelme”

The CEO of Cox Energy, Enrique Riquelme, believes that the letter of interest they sent to the Electoral Board in order to stand in the Real Madrid elections was “an important moment”, and reiterated that they are now continuing to work tirelessly on a candidacy “to be able to return the club to the member”, which “recovers some values ​​that have deteriorated” and where he hopes that “the exciting name” will be his own.

“Thursday was an important moment, I think it was given more relevance because it is a milestone for the Electoral Board, which requested that 48 hours before the end of the deadline to present candidacies and there were new rules that had to be explained and a letter of interest had to be sent to be able to go on Saturday,” Riquelme told the media after the Shareholders’ Meeting of his company held in Seville and the presentation of its new headquarters in the city.

Now, he warned that “nothing has changed” and that they continue “working 24/7 to create a candidacy after 20 years without elections.” “Democratically, with respect, we are working on a serious, professional, innovative candidacy, with a sporting enthusiasm also because that is essential for the coming years, but we know that it has to give results in the short term,” he stressed.

“It is a candidacy to be able to return the club to the member, put him inside, in the focus, and above all also a candidacy with all the respect for all parties and that, apart from this illusion, recover the values ​​of the club, which some have deteriorated in recent years. And we hope that it convinces, if we make the final decision between tonight and early tomorrow. The Board of Directors will make that decision and I am one of those who pushes to make it and be able to be at the forefront of the candidacy starting Monday,” he added.

And although he knows that “probably the most juicy thing” in a candidacy of this type are the sports figures that are involved, the CEO of Cox Energy was clear. “The best have to be at Real Madrid, they have always been and always want to come to this club, which is the best. For this reason, we must create a candidacy that returns that transparency, that democratic governance and, above all, winning, that attracts talent so that they want to come,” he asserted.

Finally, regarding the changes he has made to his company’s organizational chart and whether they were thinking about this attempt to be president of Real Madrid, the manager stressed that “you must always be prepared to always have plan A, B, C and D.”
