Germany’s World Cup group opponent Ivory Coast inflicted a bitter friendly defeat on co-favorites France before the World Cup. The team around superstar Kylian Mbappé and the two Munich players Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano lost 1:2 (1:0) against the Ivorians in front of the home fans in Nantes.
Rayan Cherki gave France coach Didier Deschamps’ team, which had been superior in the first half, the lead in the 45th minute. The French dominated the game for almost the entire first half. Mbappé (7th), Olise (20th) and Cherki (31st) criminally missed top-class scoring opportunities.
