Italy’s former soccer world champion Fabio Grosso will be the new coach at Fiorentina. As the Serie A club announced, the 48-year-old will have a contract until the end of June 2028. Grosso comes from league rivals Sassuolo. He led the promoted team to eleventh place last season and thus confidently managed to stay in the class. Florence finished the round in 15th place under Grosso’s predecessor Paolo Vanoli.
As a player, the Roman native celebrated his greatest success in 2006 when he won the World Cup in Germany with Italy. In the final, the former full-back scored the decisive penalty against France. In the semi-final he scored 1-0 against the DFB team shortly before the end of extra time. Alessandro Del Piero made it 2-0.
Grosso began his coaching career in Italy in the youth ranks of Juventus Turin. In addition to a few stints in Italy, Grosso has also been on the sidelines at the French club Olympique Lyon.
