Kap Verde advanced to the next round – a nice account for Veikkausliiga SJK

The country of about half a million inhabitants was confused by the achievement. The Cape Verdean players and supporters celebrated the achievement wildly. Some were in happy tears.

The Seinäjoki Football Club, or SJK, which plays in the Veikkausliiga, said on its website on May 26 that the defender Kelvin Pires travels with Cape Verde to the World Cup and is absent from SJK’s lineup at least until the end of June.

If May 26 is considered the start day of compensation accumulation and the day after Cape Verde’s match against Argentina on July 3 is considered the end day, Pires’ absence from the World Cup will last at least 40 days.

Since the minimum compensation estimated by Fifa is 5,000 dollars per player per day, SJK’s calculated compensation for Kelvin Pires’ World Cup trip will rise to at least 200,000 dollars, or around 175,000 euros, with these assumptions.

When Kap Verde did not stay in the first group but made it to the playoffs, SJK’s calculated pot grew by at least seven days, i.e. by 35,000 dollars, a good 30,000 euros.

The amount will increase further if Cape Verde surprises Argentina in the first round of the playoffs and continues in the tournament.

Pires has not yet played a single minute in the World Cup. He remained on the bench in the group stage matches against Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
