Massimiliano Allegri is the new coach of Napoli

Massimiliano Allegri is the new coach of Napoli. The president of the Neapolitan club Aurelio De Laurentiis made it official on X. “Welcome Max!“, the lapidary announcement from ADL. The coach from Livorno, fresh from a disappointing season with Milan, takes the place on the Azzurri bench from Antonio Conte, who seems destined to return as coach of the national team.

“SSC Napoli welcomes Massimiliano Allegri, who takes on the role of first team coach. The coach has signed a contract that will bind him to the club until 30 June 2029”, read a statement on the Campania club’s website.

The debuts on the bench and the first successes in Serie A

After a long career as a footballer, in which he also wore the Napoli shirt in ’97/98, Allegri began his career as a coach starting from the 2003/04 season. In 2007/08 he led Sassuolo to their first historic promotion to Serie B, also winning the Serie C1 Super Cup in the same year. A few months later he made his Serie A debut with Cagliari, finishing the championship in ninth place and winning the Panchina d’oro. In 2010 he joined Milan, managing to win the eighteenth scudetto and the sixth Italian Super Cup in the Rossoneri’s history.

The winning cycle at Juventus and the return to the Rossoneri

From 2014 to 2019 he was the coach of Juventus, with whom he won five consecutive league titles, four Italian Cups in a row and two Super Cups. In the same period he led the Bianconeri to the Champions League final twice. After two years he returned to lead Juventus, winning his fifth Italian Cup in 2024. Last season he coached Milan again, finishing the championship in fifth place with a bitter taste in his mouth due to the failure to qualify for the Champions League. Now the landing under Vesuvius for a new, stimulating adventure.
