Tour de France, Merlier dictates the law and wins the 12th stage in a sprint, Pogacar still the leader

Tim Merlier wins the twelfth stage of the Tour de France in a sprintstarting from the Magny Cours circuit and arriving in Chalon-sur-Saône after 179 km. The Belgian from the Soudal Quick Step team, with his third success in this edition of the Grande Boucle, precedes the Dutch Olav Kooij (Decathlon) and his compatriot Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Premier Tech) in the sprint. Bad fall a few hundred meters from the finish line involving the Colombian Fernando Gaviria (Caja Rural–Seguros Rga) and the Frenchman Dorian Godon (Ineos)in particular Gaviria suffered an injury to his left shoulder; scratches and bruises for Godon.

The top positions in the general classification remain unchanged where the yellow jersey, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) leads with 3’36” over the Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease a Bike) and 4’06” over the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe). Tomorrow thirteenth stage, the longest in this edition of the Grande Boucle, from Dole to Belfort of 206 km.
