Football: World rankings: DFB selection in twelfth place after early World Cup exit

The German national soccer team fell from tenth to twelfth place in the world rankings after failing prematurely at the World Cup. This emerges from the latest FIFA rankings, which the world association published after the World Cup final between the new world champions Spain and Argentina. The DFB selection had already been eliminated on penalties against Paraguay in the round of 16 at the finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Spain also took the lead in the world rankings from dethroned champion Argentina after winning 1-0 in the final on Sunday. France remains third, followed by England in fourth place, who won 6-4 against the French in the small final.

Record world champions Brazil, who were eliminated 1-2 against Norway in the round of 16, are fifth ahead of Morocco. Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Mexico and Colombia are also ahead of the German team. By reaching the quarterfinals, the World Cup surprise team from Norway jumped twelve places to 19th place.
