Spain replaces Argentina as the new number one in the world

The Spanish men’s soccer team has positioned itself as the new number one in the FIFA ranking this Monday after winning the 2026 World Cup with its victory over Argentina (0-1) in the final played this Sunday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (United States), a success that allows the world champion to displace the Qatar 2022 champion and current world runner-up.

Spain also has the largest point gain in this update, with 121.17 more points, and regains first place in the world ranking, equaling its best historical record. In this way, the team led by Luis de la Fuente adds the leadership of the FIFA ranking to the world title won this Sunday and to the Euro Cup won in 2024.

With this promotion, Spain also signs a milestone by simultaneously placing its men’s and women’s teams at the top of the FIFA ranking. The women’s team continues to be ranked number one in the world, a condition it has maintained since winning the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
