The Higher Sports Council announces the National Sports Awards corresponding to 2025

The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has called a new edition of the National Sports Awards, corresponding to the sporting merits of the year 2025, with the aim of distinguishing athletes, teams, associations, entities and people who have stood out for their contribution to the promotion and promotion of sport and physical activity.

According to the CSD statement, the National Sports Awards constitute the highest recognition of the Government of Spain in sports and annually recognize careers that, “from competition, management, organization, research, dissemination or representation, have contributed in an extraordinary way to the development of sport.”

The call for the National Sports Awards corresponding to 2025 includes the categories of the King Felipe Award, for the most outstanding Spanish athlete; Queen Letizia Award, for the most outstanding Spanish athlete; Princess Leonor Award, to the athlete under 18 years of age with the greatest projection; Infanta Sofía Award, to the most outstanding person, entity or institution in promoting sports for people with disabilities, inclusive sports or Paralympic sports; King Juan Carlos Award, to the revelation athlete; or the Reina Sofía Award, to the person, entity or institution distinguished for an exemplary gesture of fair play or for their contribution to the eradication of any form of violence in sport.

In addition, the Ibero-American Community Trophy, for the most outstanding Ibero-American athlete, entity, club or institution; the European Union Trophy, to the most outstanding athlete, entity, club or institution of a Member State; the Barón de Güell Cup, to the most outstanding team of the year; the Stadium Cup, to the person or entity that has contributed the most to the promotion and encouragement of grassroots sport; the CSD Award, for the most outstanding local entity for initiatives to promote physical activity; the Joaquín Blume Trophy, to the university or educational center that has stood out the most for its work in sports promotion; the National Award for Arts and Sciences Applied to Sports; and the Francisco Fernández Ochoa National Award, for a career dedicated to the practice, organization, promotion and development of sport.

According to the CSD, candidatures may be presented by federated athletes, sports associations, national and regional sports federations, private entities and institutions, people or entities distinguished in previous editions of the National Sports Awards and by any Public Administration body.

Likewise, the members of the jury may present candidatures in the terms provided in the call. As this is an open call, proposals may be made to all those people, athletes, associations, institutions or entities that, in the opinion of the proponents, meet the necessary merits to qualify for any of the categories. The period will remain open from this Tuesday, July 21, until next September 1, 2026.

“The candidacies will be evaluated by a jury appointed by the president of the CSD, which will study the proposals presented and will submit the proposal for granting the awards. The National Sports Awards will be presented in a solemn public event, which will be presided over by Their Majesties the King and Queen,” the statement concluded.
