Kalle Palander’s enthusiasm for training stopped after the match: “My own well-being is not enough of a motivator for me”

Alpine skiing legend Kalle Palander49, and media influencer Aleksi Valavuoren47, has already passed more than a month since the boxing match.

Palander made a big lifestyle change for the match. He weighed 98 kilos at the end of December. At the weigh-in of the match, the scales showed 90.8 kilograms.

However, he reveals that the sports enthusiasm has not completely continued after the victorious match. He has spent the summer in Estonia on a farm with his family.

“There’s a little left. I have a sack at home, which I’ve hit from time to time, but that’s all. I thought that three training sessions a week would be good, but it hasn’t happened,” Palander laments.

My own well-being is not enough of a motivator for me. I always need something extreme or a clear goal for that.

Palander returned to goal-oriented training for the match, but now it has been difficult to find motivation again.

“It’s been busy, and maybe even a little lack of motivation. You always come up with all sorts of reasons why you shouldn’t train.”

“My own well-being isn’t enough of a motivator for me. I always need some extreme thing or a clear goal for that. I’ve noticed it already in four weeks. Once again, it’s the same thing: even if it’s a great sport, it would be fun to train and I’m sure you’ll feel good, damn it. I just can’t get myself going.”

Palander assures that, despite the break, boxing has entered his life to stay.

“The intention would be to start again at some point. After the match, I swore that I would never take another match again. But now that I think about it, it starts to feel like I should come up with something. But I won’t say anything more, as long as I get the training started first.”

Palander knocked out Valavuori in an event held in Estonia on June 13.

Friends there was more than honor at stake in the match between. Valavuori promised to pay Palander “100,000 euros out of his own pocket” when he lost.

In June, Palander confirmed that Valavuori has not yet paid the promised amount. Now when asked about it, he answers secretly.

“Everyone asks me about that. It’s a matter between me and Aleks. We’ll take care of it. I won’t comment on anything.”

“Maybe he will pay me otherwise, maybe he has already,” he jokes with a laugh.

The duo’s match fees have reportedly been quite large. The exact amounts have not been revealed, but Palander said before the match that he earns “just enough”.

He says that the plan is to buy a fishing boat with the money earned from the match.

“My son is enthusiastic about fishing, and I was thinking of teaching him to boat. I’ve started looking at boats. I thought I’d wait until autumn, when boaters have their sales gloves on and want to get rid of their boats. I was thinking of a fishing boat, but nothing unreasonable.”

“Something nice, then. But I can say that it (the match fee) has made it easier. I’ve had bills paid.”
