The Balogun case continues to cause excitement and a need for explanation in world football. Now Norway’s association president Lise Klaveness has announced that she will submit a formal complaint to FIFA. She said in an interview with the English newspaper that she did not want to ignore US President Donald Trump’s interference Times. Klaveness reprimanded FIFA officials and accused them of trying to cover up the case.
Fifa President Gianni Infantino and Trump have been heavily criticized for several weeks after US striker Folarin Balogun was suspended for the round of 16 against Belgium despite a red card. The lifting of the ban, unprecedented in recent World Cup history, followed a call from Trump to Infantino. Balogun played in Seattle, but couldn’t prevent the 4-1 defeat against Belgium.
“Anyone who violates such a rule is embarking on a dangerous path and endangers the entire sport,” said 45-year-old Klaveness. Norway’s association wants to fully clarify the case, especially Trump’s phone call with Infantino.
