Two years after leaving Fortuna Düsseldorf, striker Christos Tzolis is moving to English champions Arsenal. The 24-year-old Greek national football player has signed a long-term contract in London, the Premier League club announced. Arsenal FC did not provide any information about the exact duration of the new working paper.
“Christos has achieved outstanding numbers in terms of goals and assists over the last three seasons,” Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta said in a club statement. According to media reports, the Gunners will pay around 40 million euros to the Belgian first division club Club Brugge. According to reports, the Düsseldorfers will not receive a share of the transfer fee.
Strong season in Düsseldorf
In the 2023/24 season, Tzolis scored 24 goals in 37 competitive games for Fortuna Düsseldorf. With 22 goals, he secured the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga together with Haris Tabakovic and Robert Glatzel. With Fortuna, Tzolis reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and narrowly missed promotion to the Bundesliga in relegation.
Düsseldorf had loaned the offensive player from Norwich City during his breakthrough season. After the season, Fortuna took out the purchase option for 3.5 million euros, but a short time later gave Tzolis to Club Bruges for a rumored 6.5 million euros.
In Bruges, Tzolis gained his first experience in the Champions League and continued to impress with his goal contributions. In 108 games for the Belgians he scored 43 goals and prepared 45 goals.
