“Leo has proven his qualities several times in the Dutch Eredivisie, in the Europa League and in the jersey of the Slovakian national team and is a man with prospects for us, not just because of his age,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth about the 20-year-old newcomer, who can be used on both flanks. Sauer played 44 competitive games for Rotterdam and scored six goals and six assists.
Among others, TSG Hoffenheim and Benfica Lisbon are said to have been interested in Sauer. However, the offensive player decided to move to Stuttgart. “It feels great to now be part of such an important club. VfB has great appeal, a lot of tradition and a huge fan base,” said Sauer about his decision.
