Ronald Araujo leaves on loan to Liverpool

The Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo will play next season for Liverpool FC, until June 30, 2027, after FC Barcelona and the English club have reached an agreement for the transfer of the footballer, the Barça entity reported this Monday.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who arrived at ‘Can Barça’ on August 29, 2018 with a contract from Barça B, leaves the ‘culer’ team after playing 213 games and scoring 14 goals with the first team, with which he debuted in the 2019-20 season and which he promoted to in the 2020-21 season.

In total, Araujo has won eight titles with the Barça team – three Leagues, two Copas del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. In his seven seasons with the first team, he had managed to become one of the captains.

Last year, in which he did not count much in the plans of German coach Hansi Flick, he started in 16 of the 38 games he played, all in a campaign in which he was out for several weeks due to mental problems.

“I’m dying to start. I’m very, very happy,” Araujo, who will wear the number 33, confessed to Liverpool’s official media. “I am very happy to be here in this enormous club with a lot of history. I really want to meet my teammates, to start playing, and I am very motivated and eager to get started,” he said.

“I think it was the ideal move for me at this stage of my career, I had to do it. As soon as I found out about Liverpool’s interest, everything got going very, very quickly. As I say, I’m very happy to be here and I’m really looking forward to getting started. I’m happy for the interest it has aroused and it was the right decision at the right time,” he concluded.
