For Austria’s women’s national team It was already clear before the last group game yesterday afternoon that promotion to the European Championship round of 16 is no longer possible. Nevertheless, it went against Bulgaria once again for a good finish in Brno.
The first point of the game went to the Austrians. They showed what they could do early on and continued to play on an equal footing with the Bulgarians. In a tight first set, they finally got the upper hand 26:24 and celebrated only their second set win ever at a European Championship.
The ÖVV women didn’t let up in the second set either and were clearly superior to the Bulgarians. They didn’t even give up the lead and clearly won the set 25:15. By winning the second set, the team made history: it was the first point for Austria at a women’s volleyball championship.
In the third set the tide turned: Bulgaria found its way into the game and won 25:14. Bulgaria also remained confident in the fourth (25:15) and fifth (15:4) sets and turned things around after a bumpy start Game for yourself.
