Finland women are at the forefront of the frisbee golf world championships, when Thursday was the second day of the games.
After the second round of the women’s category in Finland Eveliina Salonen leads the race, in third is only 16 years old Iida Lehtomäki. Among the Finns, the second place has been wedged by the United States Missy Gannon.
Salonen played the second round with 59 throws for a result of -11 and after two rounds is in the lead with a result of -14.
“The throw seemed to work, and there were no major problems. This is a pretty perfect track, and I like playing here. It showed,” Salonen said.
– This is a track for throwers. You can throw far but still accurately, and there are open and forest fairways. Perfect combo for me.
Salonen is the 2024 world champion, so he has experience of what it takes to win in the sport’s number one tournament. With three more laps to go, at least patience is needed to maintain the lead.
– After two or three rounds, the game has not yet been locked in terms of the winner. This is a long race, and anything can happen until the very last fairway, says Salonen.
Olivia Kindstedt is in eighth place and Silva Saarinen in the tenth. Leading after yesterday’s opening round Heidi Laine was in trouble in the second round and dropped to 12th place.
The races are held near Detroit in the USA. The races will be held until Sunday. Yle Areena shows the throws live.
