It was founded in 1991 by a group of employees of a construction company who were inspired by Inter both in name and colours, with the Nerazzurri vertical striped shirt: now the Inter Club of Escaldes achieved a small record by qualifying for the Conference Leaguethe first Andorra team to pass the preliminary phase of a European cup. After this feat, only Montenegro (since independence in 2006) and San Marino have never brought their club to the cups.
Victory on penalties and historic qualification in the Conference
For the Inter Club it was decisive success on penalties 4-2 against Kosovars Dritaafter the 2-2 in the first leg and the 0-0 even after extra time in the return. One of the four penalties scored by Inter Club d’Escaldes bears the signature of Maurizio Pochettinothe son of the Argentine coach coach of the United States. Since last season the 25-year-old has played as a right winger in the Andorra club where he joined after experiences at Tottenham and Watford, in England, and at Gimnàstic in Tarragona and Ibiza, in Spain.
The history of the club
The Inter Club d’Escaldes is worth 1.2 million euros and has been the champion team of Andorra five times, the microstate nestled in the Eastern Pyrenees between France and Spain. The town of Escaldes-Engordany has just 17 thousand inhabitants and plays in a stadium, the Comunal d’Aixovall, with 1800 seats. The club’s budget is a tenth ofFC Andorrathe oldest club in the Principality now owned by the former Barcelona Gerard Piquè who plays in the Spanish Serie B.
