Alpine skiing: Lindsey Vonn surprisingly nominated for the US team

Ski superstar Lindsey Vonn has surprisingly been nominated by the US association for the A squad for the upcoming season. The team, which appointed Vonn as one of 17 athletes to the A team, announced this via Instagram. The season begins at the end of October in Sölden.

However, a quick comeback by Vonn is almost impossible as the 41-year-old is still suffering from the consequences of her fall during the Olympic downhill race in February this year. At the end of April, Vonn himself announced that nothing would happen before the 2027/28 season.

Surgery is scheduled for November to remove metal from Vonn’s leg and replace her cruciate ligament. “Once my ACL is repaired, it will take another six months,” Vonn said at the time. This would also rule out the start of the World Cup in Switzerland next year.

Wildcard in the World Cup

In the World Cup, Vonn would have a personal right to start. The world association Fis recently announced that the 84-time World Cup winner would receive a wildcard if she decided to make a comeback.

Vonn suffered a complex fracture of his left tibia in a violent fall at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. As she later described, only an emergency operation prevented her leg from having to be amputated. Vonn had to undergo multiple operations.
