Bologna beat Cagliari 2-0: goal from Casale and penalty from Bernardeschi

Bologna beat Cagliari 2-0 at the Unipol Domus and achieved their second victory of the Palladino era. The Bolognese team played a less than spectacular match, but in the second half with order and cynicism they managed to take home the three points. The decisive goals were scored by Casale and Bernardeschi from a penalty. Second consecutive knockout, however, for Cagliari who are unable to redeem the heavy poker suffered in Monza last Monday. The Sardinians’ offensive problems continue as they only managed one shot on goal in the entire match.

Piccoli is still absent from Bologna, having injured himself in the last match against Inter. In terms of training, however, Palladino surprises, leaving both Enem and Dovbyk on the bench and preferring the Odgaard solution as a false nine. The first half was very blocked and with few noteworthy actions. The first shock of the afternoon only came in the 26th minute, when Mendy tried to bring down the stadium, performing an acrobatic turn in the penalty area: the young Pisacane striker, however, missed the target by a couple of metres. Four minutes pass and Bologna also has the opportunity to break the deadlock, but Odgaard’s diagonal shot is saved by an attentive Caprile.

Casale breaks the deadlock on a corner

In the second half Bologna gave the impression of looking for a goal with greater conviction. The guests broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, capitalizing as best they could on the corner taken by Miranda: Casale emerged from the pile in the penalty area and beat Caprile with a perfect third half and scored his second career goal in Serie A. Pisacane tried to reorganize Cagliari after the 1-0 they had conceded, bringing on Kevin Carlos in place of an impalpable Maldini.

The hosts, however, never broke through, only testing Skorupski in the 71st minute with a weak, central header from Mendy. With an episode then Palladino’s boys close the practice. In the 78th minute Bernardeschi shoots from the edge and finds Rodriguez’s wide arm in its path: Bonacina has no doubts and whistles the penalty. Bernardeschi appears from eleven meters and coldly displaces Caprile and scores the 2-0. Management final for Bologna who accompanies the match towards the final whistle without running any particular risks.

With this success the guests move up to thirteenth place with eight points; Cagliari, however, remains stuck at thirteen.
