Bresel won the first snooker world championship title

Belgian snooker player Luca Bresel won his first world championship title tonight, after defeating domestic competitor Mark Selby with 18:15 in the final of the World Championship in Sheffield.

Bressel thus became the first world champion to come from continental Europe, and the winner won £500,000.

After two sessions on the first day, Bresel led 9:8, and the week was still marked by Selby, who was the first in history to reach the maximum of 147 points in the final.

After the defeat, Selby remained with four world championship titles, and won the last one in 2021.
