Volleyball: the 2026 men's European championships awarded to Italy

The 2026 European Men’s Volleyball Championships will also be held in Italy. To communicate this Federvolley. Italy will be co-organizer together with Bulgaria, Finland and Romania and, as in the 2023 edition, the finals will be held in the Bel Paese. Among the reasons for the assignment there is, as reported by the Italian volleyball federation, “the great, unprecedented success of the 2023 European Championships, whose economic and social impact was estimated at approximately 234 million euros”. The European President (Cev), Aleksandar Boricic said that “the decision to entrust the realization of this prestigious event to the Italian Volleyball Federation testifies to our continuous and fruitful collaboration and, at the same time, their unwavering commitment to the progress of our sport” adding that “by nominating Italy as co-organising country of the 2026 European Championships, we wish to capitalize on the precious legacy of the 2023 edition and take it to the next step.”

The relationship between the European Championships and Italy begins in 1948 when the first continental event was organised. Since the CEV was established in 1973, the 2005, 2015 and last year editions have been held with matches played in Bologna, Perugia, Ancona, Bari and Rome. The nation that wins the 2026 European Championship will also obtain a pass to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
