Sinner in the final at the Masters 1000 in Miami, Medvedev swept away 6-1 6-2

Crazy, stratospheric, deadly: every adjective is good to define Jannik Sinner who took just over an hour to defeat the Russian in two sets (6-1, 6-2). Daniil Medvedev and reach the final of the Masters 1000 in Miami. The 22 year old from South Tyrol he didn’t really do anything wrong, evidently thanks to the bad day of the opponent who never entered the game. Those who expected a more competitive rematch of the Australian Open final, the first Slam brought home by Sinner last January, were disappointed. Lucid, ruthless, at times cynical, the blue, who is third in the ATP rankings, literally humiliated the number 4 in the world. Now Jannil has to wait for the match between Zverev and Dimitrov, who surprisingly eliminated the Spanish Alcaraz, to find out who he will challenge in the final.

With a perfect match Sinner achieved his goal third final at the second ATP Masters 1000 of the season (combined with the fourth WTA 1000 of 2024) which is nearing its conclusion on the hard courts of the Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins, in Florida. This is the fourth “1000” final in his career for the Italian: he lost those played in Miami in 2021, beaten by the Polish Hurkacz, and in 2023, stopped by Medvedev, while he won the one in Toronto 2023, overcoming De Minaur .

The 22 year old from Sesto Pusteria, n.3 ATP and second seeding favorite, fresh from the semi-final at Indian Wells (where he lost to Alcaraz, then winner of the title, his first match of 2024 after 16 victories in a row), in the semi-final he eliminated the defending champion in just an hour and nine minutes of match, n.4 in the ranking and 3 in the seeding, scoring the 21st success of the season out of 22 matches played. For the Italian it will be the 16th final of his career, the fourth of the season: 12 trophies in the South Tyrolean’s cabinet, two – Australian Open and Rotterdam – won in this first part of 2024.

“I felt great on the pitch, generally the further you go in tournaments the more comfortable you feel. I’m happy, he made a lot of mistakes and I took advantage of them – the Italian champion explained quickly – I expected a very tough match , had broken me at the beginning of the first or second set, it would have gone differently. In the final I hope to play well: it’s an important tournament, if I win it well, otherwise I’ll have other chances.”

In the event of triumph in the final, the Altoatissimo would rise to n.2 in the ATP ranking, overtaking Alcaraz, eliminated in the quarterfinals.
