Manchester United offer prompts Jason Wilcox to resign from Southampton

Southampton sporting director Jason Wilcox has resigned from his position after receiving an offer to take the position of technical director at Manchester United.

Wilcox left the position he held last summer, without completing his first season at Southampton, amid reports of the club’s management’s anger at his departure at that crucial time in the season, as the team seeks to return again to the English Premier League, in light of its presence in fourth place in the table. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Southampton club management refused to negotiate with Manchester United to obtain financial compensation for Jason Wilcox’s services, so the latter decided to resign from his position.

Wilcox worked for 11 years within Manchester City, and left as director of the club’s academy, to join Southampton as an athlete in the summer of 2023, before the Manchester United administration intervened to include him in its new administrative staff, following the transfer of the club’s sports operations management to the INEOS group owned by businessman Sir Jim.
