1. FC Union Berlin and Michael Parensen surprisingly part ways

1. FC Union Berlin and its previous technical director Michael Parensen are surprisingly going their separate ways. After a total of 15 years, including more than ten as a player, the 37-year-old will be leaving the club, Union announced on Sunday morning.

“We can all be proud of what we have achieved together during this time. It is not unusual that at this point in time we do not have the same ideas about how to continue our path. But it is important to recognize and respect this,” said Union President Dirk Zingler in the statement.

After his professional career ended in 2020, Parensen initially worked in several departments as an intern and then supported managing director Oliver Ruhnert. After completing the management course at the DFB, he was appointed technical director of the men’s professional department in the summer of 2022. Parensen was repeatedly discussed as a potential successor to Ruhnert.
