Audi has found its first driver for Formula 1

Nico Hülkenberg leaves at the end of the season Haas-racing team and switches to Audi Project ins Sauber-Team. On Friday, the US team Haas confirmed that Hülkenberg would be leaving at the end of the year, and shortly afterwards Audi announced the 36-year-old’s commitment. The German carmaker announced that Hülkenberg has signed a multi-year contract and will drive for the Kick Sauber team next year.

“One time chance”

In 2026, Hülkenberg will start as an Audi works driver in the premier class of motorsport. “The prospect of competing for Audi is something very special. When a German manufacturer enters Formula 1 with such determination, it is a unique opportunity,” said Hülkenberg. Audi is taking over the Swiss Sauber team and wants to join as a works team in 2026. In two years, a major engine reform will take effect in Formula 1, which could reshuffle the balance of power.

Hülkenberg brings with him the experience of more than 200 Grands Prix. He came to Haas last season after a three-year break. But he often drove behind in the usually inferior car. Haas is now linked to British Ferrari youngster Oliver Bearman.
