IOC study provides new insights into how to deal with trans people in sport

It’s a question that is hotly debated in sport: How should trans people be treated? Some advocate allowing trans women to compete in the women’s teams and cite arguments such as inclusion and diversity. The others speak of unfair, physical advantages and call for testosterone caps in competitions and the introduction of a separate category.

A study commissioned by the International Olympic Committee and whose results have now been published examined the question of potential benefits. The physical performance of trans people and cis people were compared, i.e. aspects such as lung function, jumping ability, cardiovascular system and fitness.
