Colavita and his debut in the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint championship: “I want to win with Ferrari”

“I can’t wait to make my debut in the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint championship. It’s a big leap from the GT Cup Pro-Am, this is the premier class of the category. I’ll make my debut in Misano at the beginning of May and then there will be 3 more stages and we’ll see how it goes. There are many unknowns for this season, we still need to understand who the most fearsome opponents will be. We will understand the true values on the track in Misano. We are certainly setting out to win.” Thus the young driver told Adnkronos Leonardo Colavita one week before his debut in the Italian Gran Turismo championship, on May 3 in Misano, where, with the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, he will compete for the Italian Pro-Am title.

A new stage in the career of the blue child prodigy who broke all records by making his debut at Euro Nascar as a 16-year-old, where he raced in 2021 and 2022, while last year he was the protagonist, coming close to the title in the GT Cup PRO-AM of the series Sprint with the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo. Paired with the 18 year old Italian American again this year is the Swiss Giorgio Maggi. “We met in the paddock and then as we hung out the understanding increased and we became friends. With the whole team we are a close-knit team”.

The dream, like all drivers, is to get to F1 and be able to drive a Red but in the meantime he studies economics with an entrepreneurial focus at Babson University in Boston. “Every boy dreams of arriving in the circus and racing with Ferrari but I also know that there are complex dynamics, including economic ones, which make landing in F1 and in particular at the Maranello team particularly difficult but I don’t preclude myself from doing anything, if we should the opportunity arise in the future, welcome.”

The passion for racing was born in the family. “I owe it to my grandparents, my maternal one was a mechanic, while my paternal one collected vintage cars and this fueled the passion. From the age of 9 onwards my parents took me go-karting on my birthday and now, despite a bit of understandable fear, they are happy with my career and, in fact, they prefer me to run rather than play football because I was quite poor with the ball at my feet.” The passion for football has remained a little. “I support Roma but I’m not particularly avid and I like watching the national team with friends.”
