Atalanta in the Italian Cup final, 4-1 against Fiorentina

Goal of the Lookman and Pasalic in full recovery they give Atalanta the final of Italian Cup, at the end of an incredible match against Fiorentina. Viola were beaten 4-1 at the end of time after being outnumbered (Milenkovic sent off in the 53rd minute) and still finding a temporary equalizer with Martinez Quarta after the initial advantage of the usual Koopmeiners. Then the goals from Scamacca and the decisive ones at the last minute from Lookman and Pasalic, which overturned the Tuscan 1-0 from the first leg. Gasperini’s team thus reaches Juventus in the last act of the tournament.

The start of the match was lively and after just eight minutes from the kick-off the Bergamo players immediately broke the deadlock: Scamacca slotted in for Koopmeiners’ cut, favored by a rebound from Mandragora, then the Dutchman did well to strike Terracciano with a left-footed diagonal shot . Before the quarter of an hour the Goddess would also find the second goal with a wonderful right-footed shot from outside by Scamacca, however made in vain by a previous foul by Koopmeiners himself on Beltran (the intervention of the VAR was decisive). The Viola try to react but struggle to create, while the hosts try to sink more shots every time they find space: Terracciano saves from Koopmeiners, De Ketelaere comes close to the post with a left-footed shot from the edge, then Ruggeri wastes a good shot chance close to half-time.

At the start of the second half, Gasperini’s winger fails to score another goal, heading wide with a header following a cross from Zappacosta, while in the 53rd minute comes the episode that threatens to make Fiorentina’s match even more difficult: Milenkovic brings down Scamacca as the last man on De Ketelaere’s through ball, for the referee there are no doubts and the visiting defender is sent off leaving his team numerically inferior. A quarter of an hour later, however, here is the unexpected twist, because from a free kick kicked into the middle by Biraghi comes the winning header from the very free Martinez Quarta, who came in to cover the hole in the defense, which is worth the 1-1 and the new Tuscan advantage in the two-legged match. Gasperini’s men were unable to accept it and in the 75th minute they went back ahead with Scamacca, who coordinated a half-overhead kick from De Ketelaere, this time finding the very regular 2-1 which brought everything back to parity again. In the final, the Goddess charges headlong in search of the winning goal and, in full injury time, even finds two with Lookman (initially disallowed for offside) and Pasalic who win the final by avoiding extra time.
