Korisliiga: Seagulls' defense crippled Bear – Sports

The Seagulls tied the semifinal series at Kauhajoki.

Helsinki Seagulls and Kauhajoki Karhu Basket continued their men’s Korisliiga semi-final series with away wins, when the Seagulls claimed a 67–50 victory over Kauhajoki.

After both have now claimed two away wins, the winner of the next game on Monday in Helsinki will be within a win of a place in the final.

The game started in accordance with the history of this match series with the visitors in control. The Seagulls started 13–2 and took a 14-point lead in the first quarter. After the Bear woke up, it got within two points in the second period, but the Seagulls’ next 14–1 rout at the beginning of the third period already stretched the gap to 17 points. In the third period, the Bears were limited to only five points and their lowest points of the season in the entire game.

The 2,247 spectators of the match did not see the Corinthian celebration, when the hosts’ shooting percentage remained at 25 and the Seagulls at 36.

“We succeeded well on the defensive end, but we weren’t quite that good, because the opponent didn’t play at their level,” commented the Seagulls coach Vesa Vertio In Ruuttu’s TV interview.

Kristian Sjölund and Junior Madut scored 12 points each for Karhu. Chuba Ohams bagged 17 points for the Seagulls.
