Women's Champions League: Chelsea misses the surprise against Barcelona – Sport

German footballers Melanie Leupolz and Sjoeke Nüsken from Chelsea FC dramatically missed the Champions League final. After a 1-0 win in the first leg, Chelsea lost 0-2 (0-1) at home against defending champions FC Barcelona. In the meantime, Leupolz missed the equalizer in front of the goal. Barcelona proved to be more efficient and secured their ticket to the final in Bilbao with the majority.

At the beginning, Chelsea let Barcelona have the ball and limited themselves to defense. Opportunities were a long time coming. It is significant that Barcelona took the lead through world footballer Aitana Bonmati with a deflected shot (26th minute). Afterwards the game became more open. Salma Paralluelo missed the 2-0 for the guests (30th). Leupolz then missed the open goal from six meters and only hit the ball on the crossbar (32′). Later, Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll saved (37′) and Nüsken passed the ball too poorly to Erin Cuthbert (39′). Chelsea really exploited their chances.

In the second half, national player Nüsken failed to hit the post (57th). Shortly afterwards, central defender Kadeisha Buchanan saw her second yellow card within five minutes – Chelsea were from then on with one less player on the pitch. Former Wolfsburg player Fridolina Rolfö made the decision with a penalty kick (75′).

Who follows Barcelona into the final in Bilbao (May 25th) will be decided on Sunday (4 p.m., DAZN). In the second semi-final, Olympique Lyon has an advantage over Paris St. Germain after a 3-2 win in the first leg.
