Bayern lose in Stuttgart, Dortmund triumph

FC Bayern suffered another Bundesliga defeat at Real Madrid four days before the semi-final second leg of the Champions League. The Munich team lost 1:3 (1:1) on Saturday to their pursuers VfB Stuttgart, who moved within two points of the soccer record champions. Before the second leg in the premier class at Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund celebrated a 5:1 (4:1) win against FC Augsburg despite numerous changes to the starting line-up.

VfL Wolfsburg took a huge step towards staying in the league with a 3-0 (2-0) win against relegated Darmstadt 98. Borussia Mönchengladbach secured at least one point in the fight against relegation in the final phase with a 2:2 (1:1) draw at Werder Bremen.

Youssoufa Moukoko (4th) scored early against Augsburg for BVB, who had changed ten positions after winning the semi-final first leg of the Champions League. Donyell Malen (20th), Moukoko again (29th) and Marco Reus (34th) in his first game after the farewell announcement for the summer all added to their performance in the first half. Rubén Vargas (32nd) scored the goal to make it 1:3 from Augsburg’s perspective. Felix Nmecha (64th) made it even clearer for BVB.

Two FC Bayern professionals have to go out injured

The away game in Stuttgart got off to a very unfortunate start for Bayern. Raphaël Guerreiro had to be substituted early with an injury (17′), then Leonidas Stergiou (29′) scored to give VfB the lead. Before the break, Serge Gnabry took a penalty against Waldemar Anton, and Harry Kane (37th) didn’t miss the chance.

During the break, coach Thomas Tuchel also took out Eric Dier, who had a head injury. Substitute Wooyeong Jeong (83′) and Silas Katompa Mvumpa (90’+3) scored the goals shortly before the end to give Stuttgart a deserved victory.

Patrick Wimmer (8th), Jonas Wind (11th) and in the final phase Vaclav Cerny (90th + 3) scored for Wolfsburg, who were heading strongly towards staying in the league. VfL goes into the remaining two games with 37 points.

Robin Hack (8th) scored first for Mönchengladbach. Nick Woltemade (45th) initially equalized before giving Werder the lead in the 65th minute. Shortly before the end, Florian Neuhaus (90.+1) converted a hand penalty to give Gladbach a point.
