“The heart and feeling of Madrid are above everything, and we have seen it”

The Spanish footballer Joselu Mato, Real Madrid striker, has stated that “the heart and feeling of Real Madrid are above everything”, in reference to the comeback (2-1) this Wednesday against FC Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semifinals of the Champions League, precisely with two of his goals ‘in extremis’.

“We have seen it in many games this year, I think it is no longer luck or anything. The coach told us before the game. There are games that are won with the heart, I think that the heart and the Real Madrid feeling are above everything, and we have seen it on a night like this,” declared Joselu in the mixed zone of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

“Two goals in a Champions League semi-final, which give you a place in the final, I don’t think everyone can say that. In the end happy, very happy, excited especially when the referee blew the final whistle. Nights like today I think they don’t fit into one’s dreams, so I’m happy,” summed up the Spanish national team forward.

“You become a footballer to also live what I have experienced in my past. In the end I think that work has led me to be here and live moments like today. Surely there would be many people who would doubt at the beginning of the season; but hey, “I have had the work, the insistence, the trust of the coach, the coaching staff and all my teammates,” he said.

“It has been seen that we have an incredible group, that the work pays off and I think that with everything that has happened at the beginning of the season, with the injuries we have had and all that, in the end we will be League champions and play in a final “Champions are big words,” said Joselu.

In addition, he recalled that he was a merengue fan in the 2022 final in Paris. “That’s the feeling, that’s being a Real Madrid fan. I also lived that time very beautifully, especially at that moment I went to support Carvajal and all of Real Madrid. I lived it as if it were just another one in my case, because in the end I’m very close to him, and I was very happy that he had been able to win it. And now it’s my turn, also close to him, close to my teammates,” he explained.

Similarly, Joselu analyzed the support received by the Bernabéu: “I have felt it since the beginning of the season as well, I think that is nothing new. In the end, happy. My teammates are happy for me because they have seen that I am a boy hard worker, that I am a humble boy and that from the beginning of the season I have worked and I think I have done things very well.

“They have seen that the work pays off and that today it was my turn, as on other days it was the turn of other teammates, and they were happy, especially happy for making it to the final. I think that on nights like today, The important thing is the team, the squad and that Madrid is going to be in the final,” the merengue striker insisted.

On the other hand, he described 1-1. “It’s being on the rebound, it seemed to me a little like the goal I scored with Spain against Italy in the Nations League. In the end it’s a goal from being there living the play, the bounce he gives to Neuer can make him miss it. It’s a great goalkeeper, but in those moments anything can happen and I think I was ready to take advantage of that moment,” he said.

Finally, he praised Carlo Ancelotti. “The coach has supported me a lot throughout the season, the truth is that he has given me a lot, he has trusted me and simply words of gratitude,” Joselu concluded.
