Sony Interactive Entertainment has communicated a modification of the recommended retail prices for the PlayStation 5 console, with effect starting from today, April 14, 2025. The decision, as stated by the company, stems from a complex global economic context, influenced by high inflation rates and the volatility of currency exchange rates. The adjustment of prices affects specific markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as Australia and New Zealand. In particular, as regards Europe, the recommended price for the PS5 Digital Edition is updated to 499.99 euros, an increase of 50 euros. Similarly, in the United Kingdom, the new price for the PS5 Digital Edition is set at 429.99 pounds. It should be noted that in both these geographical areas, the price of the PS5 standard, equipped with Blu-Ray Ultra HD player, remains unchanged (549 euros).
The situation is different in Australia and New Zealand, where the increase involves both versions of the console. In Australia, the standard PS5 with disco reader will have a recommended price of 829.95 Aud, while the PS5 Digital Edition will cost 749.95 AUD. In New Zealand, the new recommended prices are 949.95 NZD respectively for the standard version and 859.95 NZD for the Digital Edition. The recommended prices for the PS5 Pro do not undergo any modification. At the same time as these increases, Sie has announced a recommended price reduction for the disk accessory for PS5, also effective from 14 April. The new price in Europe will be 79.99 euros, in the United Kingdom of 69.99 pounds, in Australia of 124.95 Aud and in New Zealand of 139.95 NZD. Sie also indicates that other markets selected in the EMEA area, not explicitly mentioned, could also be subject to increased price increases.
